Inter-University Round Tables
Violence and hate speech against minorities: Austrian, Hungarian and Slovakian experiences and strategies to combat them

After the “European Year of Intercultural Dialogue” in 2008, the Research Platform “Human Rights in the European Context” has dedicated its first “Inter-University Round Table” to the issue of violence and hate speech against minorities and strategies to combat them.
Students of Prof. Gábor Halmai, University of Budapest, and of Prof. Hannes Tretter, University of Vienna, will participate in this round table. But also other interested students and young practitioners are kindly invited to exchange their views and assessments of the respective situation in Austria, Hungary and Slovakia.
Barbara Liegl, CEO of the Austrian NGO “ZARA” (Civil Courage and Anti-racism Work – www.zara.or.at) and Director of the RAXEN Focal Point for Austria at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, will provide a brief presentation on "Combating violence and hate speech – European standards and good practises", sharing her experience from her practical work, as well as her research. Thereafter participants will have the opportunity to exchange their experiences and discuss strategies to combat violence and hate speech against minorities.
The round table will be held in English.
